What Is It Like?

A question that is often asked by people we meet when they hear that Judy and I work with moms and dads who have lost a child is, "What is it like to lose a child? I can't even imagine it."

And to be honest we always say, "You don't really want to know what it's like."

I guess this question was brought to my mind again just before Christmas as Judy and I watched a movie on TV called, MY SISTER'S KEEPER. I have to admit, it was not a Christmas movie at all. In fact, I was emotionally wrecked when it was over and I couldn't help thinking as I wept in bed that night, "That's what it's like indeed." The movie is about a family's struggle as one of the girls of the family deals with ongoing cancer. It shows the emotions each member of the family had to deal with. Very powerful indeed.

I wanted to wait until after the holidays before recommending this movie to people who want to get an idea of the pain families go through after a child dies. But be forewarned, this movie is not an entertainment-based movie. It will bring incredible emotions as you watch it. If you've lost a child, or if you know someone who has, this movie will definitely help you understand the emotions surrounding such a loss. Below is a link to the movie that is on YouTube. Click it and you'll be able to see the movie. God bless as you watch. We love you, Pat & Judy
