I Saw Death!

While we were talking with someone recently she talked about finding her child dead in their home. And a three-word description she shared has just gripped my heart. In describing what she found she said simply, “I saw death! I saw death.”

Those of us who have lost a child know exactly what she means. There is something so dark, so vivid, about seeing your own child’s lifeless body.

The image with this blog was the best I could find to describe what death looks like. It is a faceless, bottomless pit. But unlike a faceless, bottomless pit, death does have a name! Death does have an author. His name is Satan, the devil, Beelzebub. While someone has said recently that the devil is not a real being, that he is merely a symbol, anyone who has lost a child knows the devil IS a real being. When he’s done with his work in a person’s life his wages and signature are always death.

“I saw death! I saw death…” What our friend was sayin was she saw the evil one in all of his glory. Judy and I have too, and we know his name.
